Joost in the Radar

Posted on 17 January 2007 - 11:54

O'Reilly Radar publishes an article titled "Joost is the iPhone of TV" that says that "Joost is the Firefox or iPhone of TV" because it is based on the "the Mozilla XUL platform, which enables the rapid and simple creation of plugins, already known to a hoard of Firefox extension developers".

The comparison with Firefox is very accurate, since Joost will allow people to write extensions to their TV. But that's unfortunately not the case of the iPhone which appears to be clearly locked down.

So the article should have better been titled "Joost is the Firefox of TV"!

Oh, and have a look of the nice cake that was prepared to celebrate the launch. Yummy :-)

Bonjour Sylvain,

J'ai tombé sur ton post et Joost pique vraiment ma curiosité. Comme toi je suis un geek. Serais-t-il possible de m'envoyer une invitation au beta, s'il t'en reste naturellement. Merci d'avance.

Hi, I see that you have been pretty busy with interesting technology with the Joost/Venice project. I would love to get an invite to become a Joost Beta Tester, I am very interested in the shift in web technologies and believe that I could perhaps contribute. I am actively involved in Enterprise Architecture, specialize in high performance computing, have a passion for software development and have co-authored 2 books (http://www.drp.co.za/Default.aspx?tabid=67). My blog which I had to stop for various reasons is http://dotnet.org.za/yah/. My connection speed is 1.8Mbps TIA, James

Hello Sylvain.
Just read about Joost, sounds pretty interesting... Would you send me an invitation? I'm not a web-pro, just a regular home user from Finland. I think I could represent (almost) middle-aged opinion in ordinary people's feedbacks... :)
