Thermal death

Posted on Sat 16 August 2003
Incredible news: the heat wave in France may have caused the death of 3000 to 4000 people. There's 50% more people dying than usually in August. Most of these "extra" are old people unable to face temperatures up to 40°C.

But the most incredible is that the funerals cannot be held: dead people have to queue to be buried! Mortuaries are overloaded, leading to the opening of temporary mortuaries in cold rooms normally used for food wholesale markets! And there's even a coffins shortage!

Fortunately, temperature started to drop yesterday, and it's raining this evening.

But a new heat wave is expected next week...
